Duane DobrowolskiEliminating pain...
Duane is a therapist with extensive experience in the elimination of chronic pain and the prevention of unnecessary surgeries. He has practiced in the United States, Europe and South America. For the past 20 years, he has focused on chronic pain and has developed the method known as Deep Myofascial Release. DMR therapy® focuses on relieving pain quickly and completely, incorporating elements of several therapeutic approaches such as structural integration, Active Release Technique® (ART), Trigger Point Therapy, and the Rossiter System®, but more importantly, patient feedback, tailored experimentation, and close observation.
His practice is built on his finding that people who experience fibromyalgia, headaches, chronic neck, shoulder, back, hip or arm pain, repetitive motion injuries, and other painful symptoms often suffer needlessly because the actual cause is not accurately diagnosed. Many sufferers find it hard to believe that chronic pain can nearly always be eliminated with a brief course of therapy, even if they had endured persistent pain for months or even years.
Deep Myofascial Release, the therapy developed by Duane, is based on three principles:
- Pain signals originate in the brain, and one must begin a dialog to change that response.
- The source of most musculo-skeletal pain is in the muscles and the connective tissue that envelops them.
- Soft tissues can easily be liberated from the pain loop using correctly focused therapy.
Conventional explanations for chronic musculoskeletal pain include torn tendons, tendonitis, bursitis, joint degeneration, stenosis of the vertebrae, worn cartilage or weak muscles. While some of these may indeed be present, they are seldom the cause of pain. Thus treatments approaches such as rest, physical therapy, pain relievers, anti-inflamatory medications, muscle relaxants or cortisone shots might give short-term relief but seldom eliminate the problem and may actually cause harm. More extreme measures such as cutting nerves or surgical interventions are unnecessary in nearly all cases and often generate their own post-operative problems.
DMR Therapy® is a form of manual therapy (using no tools, instruments or medications) in which the patient usually can both feel where the pain is coming from and also participate in its immediate relief. It is different from other therapies in that it is directed much deeper into the source of the pain, resulting in relief from the first session.
Most patients experience a return to normal function, free of pain, without having undergone invasive procedures or drugs with their unpleasant side effects.
